Lent Event 2010

Is a community movement committed to helping people in the privileged 'first world' empower our overseas neighbours who are enduring extreme poverty.

Lent Event challenges those of who have more than enough material wealth to re-evaluate our priorities and use of the resources entrusted to us. Lent Event invites us to shape our lives more fully with God's love and compassion for people who are very poor.

Through Lent Event individuals and communities are encouraged to participate in an annual 40-day journey leading up to Easter (the Christian period of Lent). In 2010, Lent Event runs from 17 February - 3 April.

The concept of Lent Event is very simple. For 40 days, we focus on people experiencing extreme poverty and reflect on the way of Jesus who came to bring good news to the poor of the world. We also give up an item or two from our regular budgets and donate this money to vital relief and development projects assisting some of the world’s neediest people.

You are invited to join us in this mission to take action against world poverty between 17 February - 3 April, 2010.

In 2009, our faith community gave over $3,500 to Lent Event Programs.

40 days of giving can make a life worth living

Introduction to the study Go
Week 1 - Luke 4:1-13 Go
Week 2 - Luke 13:13-35 Go
Week 3 - Luke 13:1-9 Go
Week 4 - Luke 15:1-3, 11-32 Go
Week 5 - John 12:1-8 Go
Week 6 - Luke 19:28-40 Go

Compiled by Rev. Dr Chris Budden, the Bible study beckons individuals and faith communities to analyse how they look at the world and one another and to ask “Is my way of seeing things ‘normal’?”

Participants will be inspired to reflect on their perspective as the Bible study explores the harsh and dangerous places where Jesus can be found in the world – the everyday reality of life for many of our overseas neighbours. Following readings from the books of Luke and John, participants will be challenged to consider how our partners’ sense of God’s presence should challenge and shape our own.
