Tuggeranong Uniting has managed two community child care centres for over the past thirty years. Our aim has been to facilitate the highest standard of care, quality programming, and a nurturing and inclusive environment. The centres strive to complement the home environment to help children grow and develop to their potential.

Child Care Management

A recent development has been the devolution of management to Uniting Early Learning, the umbrella organisation of the Uniting Church that oversees aged care, children's services, disability services, community care, and chaplaincy. Uniting is deeply involved in social justice and advocacy of issues that impact the people we serve. The congregation's ongoing involvement will be focussed on pastoral support for the leaders, children and families of the centres.

These services were developed when Tuggeranong was a "nappy valley" and demand for quality affordable care was high. While the demographics have changed, demand is still high and the centres continue to provide an exceptional level of care, with nourishing meals and a caring staff and constructive developmental programs.

Our Names

Bunyarra is an Aboriginal word meaning "sweet". Salem derives its name from Jesus' visit to a village, Salem, where the mothers of the village brought their children to him for a blessing. Jesus valued children where others wanted them "out of sight", and told the crowd not to hinder them "for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these". (Matthew 19: 13-15)

About Our Church

Our faith community began in 1975 as a small ecumenical gathering of people who settled in the new Canberra township of Tuggeranong. We have grown with the Tuggeranong Community, and our parish centre is the hub for our work, as a place of worship, of gathering, fellowship and ministry.

We come together for authentic and Christ-centred worship. While we worship in a variety of styles, we share a common focus on faithfully listening for God’s Word and sharing His kindness and compassion with others. We express our love for God and others through a range of ministries, and connections with our community.
