A sense of wonder

A number of years ago we bought a lovely black Labrador puppy and named her Rosie. Rosie and I went to puppy school so I could learn how to be a good obedient puppy owner. Although Rosie and I gained first place in the schooling, there was one command which I wasn’t giving Rosie correctly – the command to drop – ie on all fours on the ground. On that command Rosie would always cock her head to one side as if to say, ‘Speak proper doggie English dad!’

Be like children

Last Sunday we enjoyed a service which reflected the ministry of the Girls’ Brigade. We celebrated with them a time of worship which touched my heart and soul.

I loved the way they involved us in dancing and twisting and waving in song as worship to God. I loved the simplicity of their prayers, yet it was an honest pouring out of their heart. And I loved the enthusiasm of the young girl who with great smiles went to the muso’s to join them in playing her clarinet.

During that time of worship, I was reminded of the words of Jesus in Mark 10:15 ‘I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it’.

God’s living water

EXODUS 17:1-7

Callum is today baptised in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Callum’s baptism is a very powerful experience that focuses all of us us for the journey ahead.

One day, Callum’s baptism will speak to him, but for the rest of us here today, it’s a powerful constant narrative that reaffirms God’s faith in us. It’s also the conduit through which flows a relationship of love between God, and Callum, and ourselves.

Just as we heard in the story from the Book of Exodus, the streaming of that relationship with our LORD is not always a path with clear direction.

Return to me, O Israel

Jeremiah 4:1

Last Sunday we reached a wonderful temperature of 22 degrees at our home. A friend in SYD said it was 30 degrees where he lives. Here in CBR, the beautiful spring weather decided that it would withdraw on Monday and snow was falling in the Brindabella’s, and in some CBR suburbs I believe.

Seasons in CBR are not the only matters that have a life of their own! Two weeks back I was in SYD at a conference. One of the keynote speakers was Hayley Jones (not her real name) who is a political journalist and commentator.

Hayley said she likes to bring contemporary issues of faith into the public square for discussion. She doesn’t go to this space to fight the issues, rather she speaks to ‘shine a light, and to be a light’.

The Followers kit

Those of us who have had job descriptions attached to a particular position of employment know that those job descriptions have their limitations. It’s impossible to detail every aspect of our work. Imagine trying to detail the work of a Mum or Dad looking after a young family!

These instructions directed toward the potential followers of Jesus have their own intense impact, but as scripture shows, they were not always the sole blueprint of discipleship.

About Our Church

Our faith community began in 1975 as a small ecumenical gathering of people who settled in the new Canberra township of Tuggeranong. We have grown with the Tuggeranong Community, and our parish centre is the hub for our work, as a place of worship, of gathering, fellowship and ministry.

We come together for authentic and Christ-centred worship. While we worship in a variety of styles, we share a common focus on faithfully listening for God’s Word and sharing His kindness and compassion with others. We express our love for God and others through a range of ministries, and connections with our community.
