Jesus' call to mission

Written by

For today we’ll call this “Sunday before Lent”. The traditional practice of the season of Lent is to give something up. This is definitely counter-intuitive to the way of the world where the dominant life imperative is to acquire, collect, advance, and definitely not to “give up” or “let go”.

Advertising tells us that WE are the most important projects in the world. As we all know, it’s all about ME! The only damage that you can do to your psyche is to deny yourself what you really, really want. Self-care and self‑satisfaction seem to be our primary motivations. We worship the self. We have no greater project than ourselves.

Being perfect

Written by

Here is an old tale: Once upon a time, in a land much like ours, there were some weary travellers who came to a village with nothing but a cooking pot. They found a place to camp near some water, filled up their pot, and put it over a fire. Then they took a large stone and put it in the pot as it simmered.

Faith and spirituality

Written by

12 February

In the readings this week, Paul writes about how he fed the Corinthians with spiritual milk as they were spiritual “infants in Christ,” not ready for “solid food.” Perhaps we are not much different in the Church today. We tend to see things too simply. Like the fledgling nation of Israel, we often see things as either/or. Life and faith are presented as life and prosperity versus death and adversity, blessings versus curses.

About Our Church

Our faith community began in 1975 as a small ecumenical gathering of people who settled in the new Canberra township of Tuggeranong. We have grown with the Tuggeranong Community, and our parish centre is the hub for our work, as a place of worship, of gathering, fellowship and ministry.

We come together for authentic and Christ-centred worship. While we worship in a variety of styles, we share a common focus on faithfully listening for God’s Word and sharing His kindness and compassion with others. We express our love for God and others through a range of ministries, and connections with our community.
