Lord of the Sabbath

Written by

Many years ago when I was a Bible college student in New Zealand, I taught a group of upper primary school children in a country parish Sunday school. One Sunday we were exploring how to do individual “quiet time” or devotions, and we were looking at a passage from Mark, about Jesus teaching in the synagogue. We were using the Scripture Union material for children which has a Bible passage for the day, then a suggested list of questions to encourage the reader to think through the passage and its meaning. The questions included, “What does this passage teach us about Jesus”.

Are you one of those people who can do maths? Do you have any idea how much time I have spent envying you? After I escaped the trauma that was my school maths
career, I got much more into maths. These days, I can cheerfully say that I quite like numbers, and sometimes even maths. Now that I get to teach maths to other people, I have learned to see it more as a dance than as a horror show. There’s something rather wonderful in watching a problem turn into a solution, or even in getting something wrong but being able to articulate why I got it wrong. And numbers themselves – they can be fun. Numbers – birthdays, anniversaries, remembrances.
These numbers matter. They mean something.

Spirit for All

Written by

It is Pentecost. We are our celebrating the origins of the church by the coming of God’s spirit. There’s no better time to celebrate the diversity of the Kingdom of God than on the Day of Pentecost. Separately, our differences are too diverse to list, but put together, our individual uniqueness creates a beautiful kaleidoscope we call the Body of Christ.

Pentecost is a reminder that God’s Holy Spirit is given freely to all people with no respect for race, culture, socioeconomic standing, gender or any other distinguishing mark used by people to differentiate one person from another. In God we are one.

And it leaves us with some questions:

What does the Holy Spirit really mean to us? In our experience? In what we see in others and what happens in our own lives?

About Our Church

Our faith community began in 1975 as a small ecumenical gathering of people who settled in the new Canberra township of Tuggeranong. We have grown with the Tuggeranong Community, and our parish centre is the hub for our work, as a place of worship, of gathering, fellowship and ministry.

We come together for authentic and Christ-centred worship. While we worship in a variety of styles, we share a common focus on faithfully listening for God’s Word and sharing His kindness and compassion with others. We express our love for God and others through a range of ministries, and connections with our community.
