Pentecost

Written by

Pentecost

Pentecost should be one of the most joyous, and most powerful of the Christian festivals. It conjures up images of wind, of movement, of fiery red flames. Powerful in its symbolism, it is not hard to imagine the spirit sweeping through the minds and lives and souls of those who received it, cleansing them, renewing them, and creating fresh vigour and hope.

Ascension

Written by

Acts 1:1-14

In Acts, Luke assures us he is continuing his ‘orderly account’ of events concerning Jesus and the early church. For many of us, however, this ‘orderly’ account of the events surrounding the ascension of the resurrected Jesus into heaven is strange and disturbing. The Ascension probably ranks as one of the less than factual biblical happenings that turns progressive Protestants slightly green. I have even heard some very cynical remarks about Luke’s account, where it was observed that the story of the Ascension was necessary in order for Luke to remove the mortal body of Jesus.

John 14: 23-29

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid

It happens quite often, that dying people who have found peace, comfort those gathered around them and help them deal with their anxiety and grief. Jesus found himself in the same situation at the Last Supper. This is where our Gospel reading takes place. Jesus knew his death was near and his disciples have stopped denying it. They were in the early stages of grief. Jesus comforts the disciples who must go on living without him: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid”

About Our Church

Our faith community began in 1975 as a small ecumenical gathering of people who settled in the new Canberra township of Tuggeranong. We have grown with the Tuggeranong Community, and our parish centre is the hub for our work, as a place of worship, of gathering, fellowship and ministry.

We come together for authentic and Christ-centred worship. While we worship in a variety of styles, we share a common focus on faithfully listening for God’s Word and sharing His kindness and compassion with others. We express our love for God and others through a range of ministries, and connections with our community.
